|Spiced Swede Cake|swede|375 mg flour50 mg brown muscovado sugar½ teaspoon baking powder½ teaspoon baking soda¾ teaspoon ground cardamom½ teaspoon salt¾ teaspoon cinnamon¾ teaspoon allspice1 egg1 cup swede peeled and grated¼ cup vegetable oil½ cup milk½ cup golden syrup|In medium bowl combine 1-1/2 cups (375 mL) all-purpose flour 1/4 cup (50 mL) packed brown sugar the spices 1/2 tsp (2 mL) each salt baking powder and baking soda. Stir in 1 cup (250 mL) grated peeled swede. In small bowl lightly beat 1 egg; add 1/4 cup (50 mL) vegetable oil and 1/2 cup (125 mL) each golden syrup and milk. Stir liquid mixture into dry mixture. Pour into greased 8-inch (2 L) square baking pan. Bake in 350°F (180°C) oven for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean. Cool on wire rack.
